January 29, 2026

On the evening of January 29, 2026, the Lord, in His mercy, said “It is enough!” and gently took Kurt home to be with Him in heaven. In His grace, He allowed Lori, Mandy and several friends to walk with him to the very end of his earthly journey, holding his hands for his last moments, hours, days. While we will continue the process of missing  Kurt, the journey over the last months and years has been hard, and we rejoice that at this moment he is standing, leaping for joy freely in the presence of his Savior, and praising Jesus with a clear voice.

Kurt William Felten was born on July 28, 1962 in Chicago Illinois, to Roger and Janet (Van Ryn) Felten. On June 6, 1987, Kurt married the love of his life, Lori (Stassel) Felten. During their 38 years of marriage, they strove to serve the Lord together. Kurt made his living in the financial services industry and later in other roles in the business service community, but his real vocation was his well-known heart for service, frequently using his strengths to support and care for others. Kurt loved serving at Bible camps (especially as the dorm inspector), teaching Sunday School, and serving in AWANA, most notably for his role as an enthusiastic game leader.

Kurt wrestled in high school and was an avid sports fan and participant. As an adult he had a special passion for softball with a penchant for crushing the ball into oblivion. It is rumored that the search is still ongoing for some of his homerun balls.

Kurt also found and enjoyed the humor in every situation. From an early age Kurt loved to make others laugh and excelled at contextual comedy, earning his PhD in one-liners and physical comedy. Family gatherings were characterized by seemingly non-stop laughter. More importantly, Kurt used humor as a tool to create memorable experiences in his communities. His positive attitude, quick wit, and his accepting demeanor, are characteristics for which he will be well remembered.

Kurt leaves behind a lasting legacy through his children, Kayla, Mandy, and Ben Felten. Kurt was preceded in death by his father, Roger Felten. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lori (Stassel), mother Janet (Van Ryn) Felten, his siblings, Brent (Shari) Felten, Kristi Felten, Erik Felten, and Holly (Greg) Ehler, his in laws, Larry and Dorothy (Nehring) Stassel, brothers in law, Dave Stassel, Jon (Annemeike) Stassel, and 10 nieces and nephews. Kurt also leaves behind an enviable collection of treasured friends who enriched his life in indescribable ways.

A visitation will be held on February 6, 2026 from 5:00 – 8:00pm at Central Baptist Church, 201 W. 4th Street, Corbin, KY 40701.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on February 7, 2026 at 1:00pm at Central Baptist Church, 201 W. 4th Street, Corbin, KY 40701.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Kurt’s memory may be made to Living Waters Bible Camp scholarship fund, youth ministries at Central Baptist Church (Corbin, KY), or the Association of Frontotemporal Degeneration (theaftd.org).

Enjoyed working with Kurt in Awana for several years at Central Baptist. He loved being over game time and put everything he could to make it enjoyable and fun for the kids. He was devoted in his service to the Lord Jesus Christ and a very faithful Church member. Good christan guy that will be missed by many.
