Jesse Colson Grant
November 13, 1941 - November 5, 2022Jesse Colson Grant, 80, of Corbin, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at Baptist Health Corbin on Saturday, November 5, 2022, surrounded by friends and family.
Jesse was born November 13, 1941, to Bill and Mabeth Grant. He graduated from Corbin High School in 1961.
Jesse loved and was loved by many. Jesse was passionate about the Corbin Redhounds and the University of Kentucky football, having played guard for both teams. He was inducted into the Corbin High School Hall of Fame in 1983 (1957-61) and was also a member of the K Club. He received many All-State, All-American, and All-Southern Team honors and mentions in the Boys From Corbin and The Thin Thirty Team by Shannon Ragland.
In 2008, the Kentucky Chapter of the National Football League Players Association recognized the University of Kentucky 1961 Thin Thirty Team with the Blanton Collier Award for their integrity on and off the field.
He spent many years spelunking and many of his artifacts are now on display in local colleges. He loved being outdoors at Laurel Lake, shooting black powder, or working in one of his many gardens. In his later years, he loved birdwatching and spending time with his animals.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William “Bill” and Mabeth Browning Grant; siblings: Jean Buttery, Madge McCreary, and Harold Grant.; wives: Phyllis Goins Grant (Robin and Chuck) and Brenda Moore Grant (Rick, Tonya and Kelli).
He is survived by two sisters; Shirley Parman of Dallas and Marjorie Short Dunaway of Michigan; former wife and mother of his daughter, Joyce Grant; and his daughter, Tonia Kraus (Tri) of Nashville; along with numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and special friends: Shawn Powers Bryant, Darrel Tubbs, and Trish Frazier.
At Jesse’s request, there will be no funeral service. His ashes will be scattered in the Grant Family plot at McFarland Cemetery and in a few of his favorite places. Jesse loved Corbin and the USA.
