Michael Allan Tompkins
October 12, 1943 - January 14, 2025Michael Allan Tompkins, 81, of Corbin, KY, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025. Mike was born on October 12, 1943, in Evansville, IN.
As a young man, Mike moved with his family to Corbin where he became a founding member of the Key Club and a graduate of Corbin High School. He then attended Cumberland College. He also proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserves.
He began a career with Whayne Supply where he worked for over 30 years.
Mike was a member of the Lions Club and served as the president of the CHS Band Boosters and Corbin’s United Effort.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Luane Tompkins; two sons: Michael J. (Ginger) Tompkins of Fort Myers, FL, and Christopher S. (Amber) Tompkins of Corbin; grandchildren: Kaitlyn Tompkins of Louisville, KY, Austin Tompkins of Tampa, FL, and Haley (Connor) VanAtter of Brooksville, FL; great-grandson, Everett Creed Shafer, of Shelbyville, KY; sister, Linda S. Rowlett of Corbin; and bonus grandchildren: Adelyn, Polly, and Atticus Adams of Corbin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Tompkins and Margaret Tompkins Crook; and a son, Gregory Allan Tompkins.
Mike will be remembered by his family and friends for his kindness to others, as well as his relaxed, easygoing nature, even in the face of chronic illness. He was a dedicated father to his sons and enjoyed coaching them in T-ball. In later years, he and his wife became loyal roadies for their son Greg’s band, often hauling equipment to and from the band’s shows. Mike also enjoyed gardening, and along with his wife, would can the produce he grew each year. He enjoyed cooking, most notably chili, for the football concession stand. He and Luane could often be found working at Bingo to support their favorite local charities. But perhaps his best times were those spent at home with his family and their beloved dogs.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, January 17, 2025, in the Hart Funeral Home Chapel with Bobby Joe Eaton and Gerald Fox officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.
Mike’s family will receive visitors from 11 A.M. – 2 P.M. Friday, January 17, 2025, at Hart Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Association.
