R.P. Edwards

March 1, 1937 - January 22, 2025

Rev. R. P. Edwards was born on March 1, 1937, and passed away on January 22, 2025, living 87 years, 10 months, and 21 days.

R.P. was a member of Living Waters Pentecostal Church.  He pastored Gray Pentecostal Church for many years.  He also pastored for several years at New Girdler Pentecostal Church.  He has preached many sermons in area churches and sung many songs with his guitar.

R.P. owned Corbin Paint and Wallpaper in Corbin for many years, working as a painter and paper installer.  He spent his last few working years driving a school bus where he loved each and every child he encountered.

He instilled his love of Jesus into his children, friends, and neighbors.

R.P. was proceeded in death by his father and mother, Rev. Tip and Mossie Edwards; his wife and mother of his children, Aileen Edwards; his siblings: Otis Edwards, Alice Smith, Dave Edwards, Esther Gregory, Colson Edwards, Roy B. Edwards, Earl Edwards, and Anderson Edwards.

R.P. is survived and will be greatly missed by his loving and dedicated wife, Effie Edwards; his three daughters: Carol (Dennis) Hensley, Brenda (Mark) Norvell, and Donna (Mark) Creech;  his three precious grandchildren: Denny (Amy) Hensley, Angela (Russell) Murphy, and Natasha (Eric) Garrison;  his six lights of his world, great-grandchildren:  Logan Hensley, Isaac Hensley, Cadee Murphy, Kayla Hensley, Marley Garrison, and Boston Garrison; and his only remaining sister, Alta Helton, whom he loved very dearly.

He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, sisters-in-law; and by hundreds of friends and fellow ministers who will mourn his passing.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2025, from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at Hart Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Monday January 27, 2025, at 1 P.M. with visitation from noon until the funeral hour.  Rev. Rodney Edwards, Rev. Charlie Humfleet, and Rev. Ryan Wells will be officiating the service.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with Mark Creech, Eric Garrison, David Hensley, Dennis Hensley, Denny Hensley, Isaac Hensley, Larry Hensley, Russell Murphy, and Mark Norvell serving as pallbearers; Logan Hensley will serve as honorary pallbearer.

    Bro RP Edward’s was a great Christian friend and fellow Minister. We were in many church services together and he always demonstrated the love of God in all his actions. He was a light in the darkness of this world.. His memory will always be cherished in our hearts. RIP my fellow comrade!
