JB Short

September 16, 1931 - June 15, 2024

JB Short, 92, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2024, at his home in Corbin, Kentucky.  Born September 16, 1931, in Smith, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Drew and Dovie Short. In addition to his father and mother, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruby Short; granddaughter, Heather Graham; an infant brother, RC Short; five sisters: Lucille, Betty Jean, Loretta, Nora Faye, and Margaret Ann; and four sons-in-law: Edward Johnson, Rob Couch, Michael Lane, and Veren Rains.

JB was a retired United States Army veteran who served in both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War.  He earned various medals for his service, including the Purple Heart.  Later, for many years he served as the bugler in the Post 1410 Honor Guard.

He leaves behind four daughters: Virginia Johnson, Pat Couch, Debra Rains, and Lois Short; one son, James Short and wife Joy; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Freda and Bobbie; and three brothers: Ron, James (Virginia), and Don (Brenda).  He is also survived by several other relatives and friends.

He attended the Upper Room Revival Center in Corbin. He was also honored as a Kentucky Colonel.  One of his most descriptive attributes was his very strong work ethic.

Dearly loved, JB will be deeply missed

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, June 21, 2024, at the Upper Room Revival Center with Pastor Mark Gilbert officiating.  Burial will follow in Cumberland Memorial Gardens in Lily, Kentucky, with military honors by the Harlan Honor Guard. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 12 – 2 P.M. Friday at the Upper Room Revival Center 109 Fairview Street Corbin, KY 40701.

    The funeral is supposed to be June 21 instead of January it was a misprint
