Carolyn Annagayle Hoskins, 65, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones in Lexington, Kentucky. Carolyn was born on January 9, 1960, in Hyden, Kentucky, to the late Orie and Alafair Pennington. She spent her early years in Farmington Hills, Michigan, where she attended the University of Michigan and met her devoted husband, the late James Hoskins. Together, they built a life centered on love and laughter.
Carolyn dedicated her life to caring for others, embodying selflessness and unwavering support for family and friends. She was always a steadfast presence in tumultuous times, ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. Her caring spirit was most evident in her professional work. As co-founder of the Stairway Up daycare center in Michigan, she nurtured countless young lives, and during her years with the Laurel County School System, she formed lifelong bonds with the children and colleagues she cherished.
Carolyn was known for her creativity, keen intellect and love of learning. She delighted in solving puzzles, playing games, and diving into countless autobiographies and documentaries. Her wisdom and maturity were complemented by a youthful zest for life. Whether exploring new places or attending concerts with her daughter Maren and friends, Carolyn’s adventurous spirit brought her and those around her immense joy. She was a light to all who knew her, offering laughter in moments of celebration and solace in times of hardship.
Carolyn’s memory will be cherished by her daughter, Maren Hoskins, and the many lives she touched with her kindness, love, and compassion.
A memorial service to honor Carolyn’s life will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Hart Funeral Home in Corbin, Kentucky. Friends and family are welcome to join for visitation at 11:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. Dean Whitaker. Burial will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery with Greg Parks, Bryan Parks, Teddy Rawlins, Doug Cotter, Keith Ramsey, and Joe Pennington serving as pallbearers.

We knew your grandma really well . She was special. We enjoyed many visits at her home. Your grandpa also was always kind and considerate to us. Love and prayers.
