Deborah Lynn Jones

Deborah Lynn Jones

January 1, 1958 - October 21, 2025

Deborah (Debbie) Lynn Jones, 67, of Corbin, Kentucky, passed away at her home on October 21, 2025. She was born on January 01, 1958, in Corbin, Kentucky, to her mother, Margie Lou Chadwell.

Debbie attended Laurel County High School before working for American Greetings Corporation in Corbin, Kentucky.

She was a lifelong member of the Dorthae Pentecostal Church, and she never passed up the opportunity to brag on her pastors (Rev. Carl R. Felts and Rev. Billy L. Evans), whom she loved and adored. Debbie was a proud member of the Dorthae Sanctuary Choir for many years. She was a skilled musician who could play the acoustic guitar, the drums, and the banjo.

As a child, she played the drums at Trinity Pentecostal Church on Fifth and Iowa in Louisville, Kentucky.  She also taught her cousins how to play the drums. Even as a child with just a snare and a cymbal, many may not be aware that she was the first drummer in Dorthae Pentecostal’s first church building. Debbie was also an amazing gospel singer and songwriter. The first time anyone ever heard that golden voice was when, as a child, she sang on the radio, “Don’t Shake Hands with the Devil.”

The only things Debbie liked more than singing and playing music were her love for her children and grandchildren, and being in the company of her family. Throughout her life, Debbie enjoyed laughing and joking with her siblings.

She is survived by her husband, Carl Ray Jones, of 25 years, 11 months, and 18 days; two children: Wesley Richard DeWeese and Eric Tyler Black; four grandchildren: Josh DeWeese, Emily DeWeese, Trudy Black, and Tyler Paige Black; her brother, Jeffery Dean Saylor (Lois); her sister, Donna Gale Porter (Bill); three nieces: Olivia Racheal Saylor, Alicia Danielle Ison, and Allisa Nicole Porter; four nephews: Steven Grant Lawson, Mathew Lee Ison, Michael Joseph Lawson, and Israel Malachi Saylor,  as well as her aunt, Donna Williams; her uncle, Todd Chadwell; five great-nieces; 14 great-nephews; and host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

She was preceded in death by her son, Chad DeWeese; her mother, Margie Lou Chadwell; a brother, Donnie Wayne Saylor; a sister, Mellisa Trude (Saylor) Ison; and her uncle, Lon Chadwell.

The memorial service will be held at Dorthae Pentecostal Church on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. The visitation for the family will be from 11:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M., and the visitation for the public will be from 12:00 P.M. –  2:00 P.M. The officiating ministers will be Billy Evans, Johnny Day, and Harold Sulfridge.
