Edna M. Whitus

Edna M. Whitus

October 21, 1945 - October 7, 2024

Edna M. Whitus, 78, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 7, 2024. She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and generosity that will be treasured by all who knew her.

She was born October 21, 1945, the daughter of the late Howard and Retha Sutton.

Edna was a faithful member of Shiner Church of Christ.  She dearly loved her Church family and loved to worship with them.  She was always very much concerned if someone was not in attendance and followed up by checking on that brother or sister in Christ.

In addition to her father and mother, she was preceded in death by her son, Christopher Howard Whitus, and two sisters: Betty Sue Lyttle and Rena Jo Denny.

A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother,  sister, and friend, Edna leaves behind her devoted husband of 60 years, Charles D. “Wayne” Whitus, Sr.; daughter, Pam Jones and husband Denny; son, Chuck Whitus and wife Angie; five grandchildren: Eric Jones and wife Bendra, Callie Whitus and fiancé Tanner Barnes, Cadie Whitus and fiancé Jake Day, Cara Whitus, and Faith Jones; two great-grandchildren: Greyson Jones and Sutton Ruth Jones; and two sisters: Frankie Coffey and Trish Connatser.  She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and two special friends: Mary Ruth Jones and Marjorie Dople.

Edna’s greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, the loves of her life. She took immense pride in each of their lives.  Her love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was unconditional, and the special way she treated them will continue to shape their lives for years to come.

One of Edna’s greatest gifts was her ability to bring people together through food and hospitality.  Her home was always filled with the warmth of laughter, the aroma of delicious meals, and the comforting presence of her care.  Her Sunday meals were a staple and included everyone’s favorite dishes; she was always genuinely concerned that everyone had enough to eat.  She loved cooking for her family and friends and her table was a place where all felt welcomed and loved.   Her “better hugs than anyone else could give” made everyone feel special.

Edna was dearly loved and will be sorely missed.  Her family takes great comfort in knowing that she has returned to her heavenly home where she will continue to watch over them.  We pray that her memory will be a blessing to all who loved her.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Shiner Church of Christ in Williamsburg, Kentucky, with Chris Hopkins and Denny Jones officiating.  Burial will follow in Corinth Cemetery with Chuck Whitus, Eric Jones, Tanner Barnes, Jake Day, Kenny Tye, Mike Lewis, Tim Coffey, and Randy Lyttle serving as pallbearers; honorary pallbearers are Adam Hill, Eli Hill, Rex Mobley, A.C. Ward, and Eric Gibbs.

Visitation will be held from 6 – 8 P.M. Friday at Hart Funeral Home and from 12 – 2 P.M. Saturday at Shiner Church of Christ.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shiner Church of Christ Food Ministry P.O. Box 459 Williamsburg, KY 40769 or to the Eli Hill Foundation P.O. Box 400 Corbin, KY 40702.
