Freda Joyce Adkins Bailey

Freda Joyce Adkins Bailey

November 11, 1942 - September 29, 2025

Freda Joyce Adkins Bailey, age 82, of Corbin, KY, left her earthly home to go to her heavenly home on September 29, 2025.

Freda was born in Corbin on November 11, 1942, the daughter of Dennis and Lena Adkins. Freda married Jack Bailey in 1962, and although both were natives of Corbin, they lived in Dayton, OH, for 12 years where Freda worked at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. While in OH, Freda and Jack were blessed with two beautiful daughters. Freda and her family then moved home to Corbin where she finished her college degree and began teaching. Subsequently, she earned her Master’s degree and Rank I certification, retiring from Corbin City Schools after 28 years.

Freda leaves a legacy of love for God, family, and other people, particularly children. She was steadfast in her faith in Jesus Christ and devoted to His service. It was easy to learn of her giving nature to others, not because she told things she did to serve them, but because those she served told about it. She was raised in Dorthae Pentecostal Church and a member of Freedom Point Church of God in Corbin.

Freda enjoyed cooking (not cleaning Haha!) where she earned a reputation among family as baking “the best cakes.” She loved traveling, swimming, and spending time with family and friends, especially her three precious grandchildren. Freda was a jovial person who loved to laugh whether it was with her teaching buddies or with family and friends eating, playing games, or telling stories—which was her idea of “partying.” Her birthday being on Veterans Day was fitting since her father served in WW II which kept him from meeting her until she was three years old.

Freda was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Jackie Wayne Bailey; father, Charles Dennis Adkins I; mother, Lena Rose Felts Adkins; and a brother, Donnie Ray Adkins.

She is survived by two daughters: Melissa Bailey Bledsoe (Steve) of Corbin and Angela Bailey Lawson (Philip) of East Bernstadt; three grandchildren: Kaylin Bledsoe Batt (Elijah), Kamden Bledsoe, and Samuel Lawson; a sister, Karen Collins (Dennis) of Corbin; a brother, Charles Dennis Adkins II (Mildred) of Casper, Wyoming; several nieces and nephews; and other family to mourn her passing.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, October 3. 2025, in the Hart Funeral Home Chapel with Harold Sulfridge, Sean Disney, and Kip Wells officiating.  Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery with Kevin Adkins, Jeff Adkins, Kamden Bledsoe, Elijah Batt, Chris Horn, and Josh Bunch serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 12 – 2 P.M. Friday at Hart Funeral Home, located at 1011 Master Street in Corbin.
