Claretta Sue Mays

Claretta Sue Mays, 83, passed away Friday, December 8, 2023, at her home in Corbin, Kentucky, surrounded by her loving family.

Born May 3, 1940, in Place, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late James O. Barton and Dora Mae Barton.

In addition to her father and mother, Sue was preceded in death by her son, Stephen Randall Mays; granddaughter, Kelly Brianna Bevins; sister, Patty Lou Barton; and son-in-law, Jerry “Dale” Bevins.

Sue was a member of Harvest Home Church.  Her greatest joy was found in serving the Lord, especially alongside her husband in the ministry, and taking care of her beloved family.

She leaves behind her loving husband of 65 ½ years, James Randall Mays; son, James E. Mays and wife Lisa; daughter, Donna Sue Bevins; grandchildren: Jerry Chase Bevins and wife Lindsay, Matthew Ryan Mays and wife Erica, Davin Randall Bevins, MaKenzie Dawn Cundiff and husband Cody, and Leah Brianne Mullis and husband Sebastian; and great-grandchildren: Clayton, Cassie, Bennett, Ellie Kate, Aubrey, Luke, Avilyn, Bram, Delylah, Claire, and Silas.  She is also survived by a host of other family members, friends, and her church family.

Sue was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at Harvest Home Church in Corbin, Kentucky, with Pastor Kenny Johnson and Pastor Mark Gilbert officiating.  Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery with Chase Bevins, Davin Bevins, Matthew Mays, Bennett Mays, Sebastian Mullis, and Cody Cundiff serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 P.M. Monday at Hart Funeral Home, located at 1011 Master Street Corbin, KY 40701 and from 1 – 2 P.M. Tuesday at Harvest Home Church 162 S. Commonwealth Avenue Corbin, KY 40701.
