Donald “Wayne” Burkhart

Donald “Wayne” Burkhart, 76, of Lily passed away Friday, October 27, 2017, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Lexington, KY. 

He was a United States Army veteran who proudly served his country during the Vietnam War.  He was retired from Cummins Engine Company in Seymour, IN.

Born August 7, 1941, in Lily, he was the son of the late Ernest and Eula Burkhart.

In addition to his father and mother, he was preceded in death by one sister: Elsie Leonnard; and three brothers: E.C. Burkhart, Alvin Burkhart, and Malcom “Mike” Burkhart.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 48 years, Gail Marie Burkhart; two sons: Jeffery Burkhart and Douglas Burkhart; one daughter: Shannon Burkhart; two grandsons: Dustin Burkhart and Devan Burkhart; one sister: Margie McIntosh of Columbus, OH; and one brother: Ray Burkhart and wife Gretta of Trafalgar, IN.

He is also survived by many other relatives and numerous friends, including a very special friend, Richard J. Arnold of Indianapolis, IN.  He will be greatly missed. 

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 31, 2017, in the Hart Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ronnie Ball officiating.  Burial will follow in the Burkhart Family Cemetery with full military rites by the D.A.V. Chapter 158.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 P.M. Monday at Hart Funeral Home, located at 1011 Master Street in Corbin.

    Neal and I just heard about Wayne, ours hearts are broke for you all. We know for sure he is with Jesus and all the family that went before him.It sadden me so much to think about him being gone,he was a gentle giant who loved and protected his family and love ones. It is very rare to find a man like Wayne and it was a blessing to know and love him.Our love and prayers to you gail the children and grandchildren 11-3-17

    I have always had a great respect for Wayne and his family. All the boys were friends of mine growing up. They lived ne’er my Paw Ebb McHargue. God bless and comfort you all.. day
