Earsel “Tarp” Garrison

June 22, 1930 - November 7, 2014

Earsel “Tarp” Garrison, 84, of Gray passed away Friday, November 7, 2014.  Born June 22, 1930, at Green Road, KY, he was the son of the late Wiley and Minervia Stewart Garrison.  He was a member of Keck Baptist Church and was retired from General Motors Fisher Body.  A U.S. Army veteran, he proudly served his country in the Korean Conflict.

In addition to his father and mother, he was preceded in death by three sisters: Helen Wathan, Zella Mae Saunders, and Amanda Ledford; and five brothers: Charles Garrison, Henry Garrison, Hillard Garrison, Crit Garrison, and Ted Garrison. 

Married on July 31, 2004, he is survived by his loving wife, Darlene Davis Garrison.  Other survivors include his three children: Gary Garrison and wife Janet of Wisconsin, Rhonda Gallagher and husband Mark of Corbin, and Daryl Garrison and wife Jennifer of Corbin; three step-sons: Steven Greer of Rushville, IN, Jimmie D. Greer and wife Cindy of Shelbyville, IN, and Christopher Greer of Shelbyville, IN; eight grandchildren, 14 step-grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and one step-great grandchild; one brother, Loyal Matt Garrison and wife Wilma of Barbourville; sisters-in-law: Lucy Garrison of Corbin, Verna Garrison of Gray, Betty Baker of Rushville, IN, Wanda Claffey of Palm Coast, FL, Doris Roberts of Everton, IN, Carolyn Hundley of Rushville, IN, Gail Lobenthal of Bloomington, IN, and Vickie Davis of Rushville, IN; brothers-in-law: Jim Claffey of Palm Coast, FL, Everett Davis of Rushville, IN, Donald Davis of Batesville, IN, Paul Davis of Rushville, IN, Jerry Lobenthal, Bloomington, IN,  Gerald Fields of Rushville, IN, and a special niece Janet Smith, as well as numerous friends to mourn his passing.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M. Monday, November 10, 2014, in the Hart Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jimmy Siler and Wiley Smith officiating.  Burial will follow in Garrison Martin Cemetery with military rites conducted by the D.A.V. Chapter 158.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 9 P.M. Sunday at Hart Funeral Home, Inc., located at 1011 Master Street in Corbin.

    Our dearest friend we love you with all our hearts you will be in our thoughts and prayers if their is any thing we can do all you have to do is call wish we could be there but in daddys condition know you understand but I wanted you to know we are thinking of you and praying for you love you our dear sweet friend for ever.

    I am sad to find out about this. Tarp was a good man, my hearth goes out to the family at this time of loss. So sorry!
