My mom loved gardening and canning what she grew. She would share what she grew in her garden with family and friends who came by to visit. She was a hard worker and a good provider for her family.

My grandmother was a strong, smart, gentle, and courageous woman. She was a mother figure to so many. She always told me she lived two lives as she had to grow up quick. Her being the oldest of her siblings she took care of them and then she took care of her own children. She loved taking care of people. She always made sure that once you came inside her house that you didn’t leave hungry. She loved gardening, writing songs and poetry, quilting, cooking, working puzzles, reading, and playing board games. Mammy, you will be missed. The memories will forever be engrained in me. . – Meggy

What I remember most is Edna’s
Cooking. She always Brought the best food to our church potlucks and her green beans were so good they inspired me to begin canning my own. She was a very friendly woman and always had the warmest
Smile for everyone. She is loved and missed.

Mamaw was the epitome of a true and classy lady of grace. She was tough and gritty when she needed to be and a pioneer woman with an incredible amount of knowledge of the natural world. She knew what could be eaten from the woods and brush and what could be used as medicine. Her green thumb was widely known. An incredible cook, she loved to teach others this art and it was an expression of her deepest love when you tasted her food, almost like none other you had ever had. She believed her love went into her garden vegetables, canning and cooking and that this made it taste better. She taught and exemplified always presenting and representing yourself as your best self. We joked that spending a summer with her was akin to any of the finest finishing schools. She was an amazing nurse and carried a healing spirit. A woman of God and strong in the faith, many of us grew up believing she had a direct phone line to the Good Lord, and perhaps this was the case. Mamaw, I am a better woman, wife, mother and surgeon because of you. Your tenacity, diligence, and discipline run in our veins. Rest now, our matriarch, from your long marathon and we will see you soon.

My mom had so many talents that I forgot to mention that she had bee hives and that every year she would ask me to help her “rob the bees” to glean some delicious honey. My daughter when she was ten wanted to know what it looked like inside a bee hive. Mom always wanting to teach the children things, put a bee suit on her and took her to the hives and showed her what the life of a bee colony was like.
Mom always said, “you never know what an impact you can have on a child.”
Momma, you will be missed in so many ways from all of us.

I would like to thank everyone who helped during our time of grief. Thank you to all who brought food and to all the pall bearers. Thanks to Stan Martin who drove from Huntsville, Alabama to officiate the service, and to Neal Mullins who did the eulogy. A special thanks to Hart Funeral Home for a beautiful service, and especially Lue who is a God send. Lue worked very hard to make sure all my mom’s wishes were carried out. Thank you to all who were there to give your support and those who called to express your condolences. These next few months will be the hardest so I thank all of you for your support.
