Geneva “Granny” Evans Lay

Geneva “Granny” Evans Lay, 78, of Corbin passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2020, at her home. Born April 16, 1941, in Harlan, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late General and Lola Hicks.

Although Geneva thoroughly enjoyed growing flowers, especially roses, and spending time fishing, her greatest love was her family. She was described as a mother and grandmother to everybody.

In addition to her father and mother, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Willie Evans; second husband, Louis Lay; daughter, Misty Ann Evans; and daughter-in-law, Brenda Cheek.

She leaves behind her son, Donald Wayne Cheek; son, Harold Lee Cheek, Sr., (Cindy); daughter, Sheri Lynn Bullock (Tim Hill); daughter, Crystal Dawn Evans; step-children: Jason, Janel, Tina, Denise, and Kenny; bonus children: Kimberly Gray and Shawn Keeling; 24 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; and sister, Carol Petrey (Joe). She is also survived by several other relatives and numerous friends. Granny was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 29, 2020, in the Hart Funeral Home Chapel with Don Hilton officiating. Burial will follow at Douglas Cemetery in Jellico, Tennessee, with grandsons serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 P.M. Friday at Hart Funeral Home, located at 1011 Master Street in Corbin.
