Georgia Gibson

July 31, 1934 - September 16, 2025

Georgia Gibson, 91, of Corbin, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2025.  Born July 31, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Rev. J.M. and Roxie Skeen.

In addition to her father and mother, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Willard Sears; second husband, Joe Gibson, Jr.; infant grandson, Mark Sears; grandson, Kenny Ray Shaw, Jr.; and nine siblings: Johnny Skeen, Thelma Woolum, Wendell Skeen, Betty Smith, Polly Skeen, Melvin Skeen, Naomi Harp, Imogene Powers, and infant brother, Tommy Skeen.

Georgia leaves behind her children: Don Sears and wife Jayne, Bob Sears and wife Wanda, Wookena Alder and husband Corky, Gail Gibson Ellis, Garry Gibson and wife Hala, and Tim Sears and wife Frances; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Abby Shackleford and Kathleen Smith.  Several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and her beloved pet dog, Henry, also survive her.

Georgia was a member of Faith Baptist Church.  She was retired from the Corbin Independent School System where she worked for many years as a cook and lunchroom manager.  Her delight in feeding people also transferred to her family’s favorite dishes: chicken and rice, chocolate pie, and banana pudding.  In addition to her love for cooking, she also found pleasure in her flowers, especially orchids.

Loved dearly by her family, Georgia will be deeply missed.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, September 19, 2025, in the Hart Funeral Home Chapel with Bennie Bush and Norman Harp officiating.  Burial will follow in Cumberland Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 12 – 2 P.M. Friday at Hart Funeral Home, located at 1011 Master Street in Corbin.

    She may be gone but she is in a place witb God and is out of pain. She can cook for those she is with now. You will always remember her and you can be sure that you will remember what she stood for.
