Gladys Sulfredge

Gladys Sulfredge, 98, of Corbin passed away Friday, January 29, 2021. Born December 11, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Herbert H. Scalf, Sr., and Dora Elva Taylor Scalf.

Gladys was a devout Christian and the oldest living member of Central Baptist Church where she had attended since 1939. She was also a retired teacher. Additionally, she was an avid gardener who preserved food by canning and freezing. An excellent cook, she especially enjoyed her morning breakfast of cookies and coffee.

In addition to her father and mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles D. Sulfredge, Jr., in 1982; sister, Nora Walton; two brothers: Dr. Russell F. Scalf, Sr., and Herbert H. Scalf, Jr.; and niece: Zelah “DeDee” Scalf.

She leaves behind her son, David Sulfredge; two nephews: Russell F. Scalf, Jr. (Cindy) and Herbert Walton (Theresa); and four nieces: Kayrene Scalf (Wayne Clark), Phyllis Scalf (Robert Churchey), Beth Trapp, and Robin Shope (Frank). She is also survived by several great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, and great-great nephews, as well as other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 2, 2021, in the Hart Funeral Home Chapel with Bobby Joe Eaton officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12 – 2 P.M. Tuesday at Hart Funeral Home, located at 1011 Master Street in Corbin.
