John D. Wagers
March 18, 1945 - August 21, 2019John D. Wagers, 74, of Corbin passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2019, at his home. Born March 18, 1945, he was the son of the late Russell and Mabel Wagers. In addition to his father and mother, he was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Smith, and grandsons, Thomas Lee Gibson III and Cody Lee Gibson.
John was formerly employed at NCR in Corbin and as a bus driver for the Knox County Board of Education. John enjoyed taking pictures, spending time with his family, and talking to everyone he met. He was an active church member at Poplar Grove Baptist church.
John leaves behind his loving wife of 22 years, Brenda Wagers; daughter, Monica Marcus of FL; son, Chris Wagers of Corbin; step- daughter, Kimberly Stewart (Eric) of Corbin; three grandchildren: Charlie Marcus (late Sari) of FL, Hailey and Abigail Stewart of Corbin; one great grandchild, Adalynn Marcus of Fl; one brother, Russell Wagers of London; and a special friend, Linda Yates of Corbin. John is also survived by a host of family and friends who mourn his passing, as well as by his fur babies Booger and CoCo.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 24, 2019, in the Hart Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bobby Joe Eaton officiating. Burial will follow in Cumberland Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6 – 8 P.M. at Hart Funeral Home, located at 1011 Master Street in Corbin.

Posted at 19:05h, 24 AugustDear Brenda, I just learned of John’s passing and was also unaware of his recent health problems. I am so sorry to learn of his passing! John and I go all the way back to our high school years (1962-65). We were pretty close friends then and we spent a great deal of time together. When I went to college we somehow drifted apart and I have seen him only twice since about 1968 (once at the barber shop here in Corbin and again during church at Poplar Grove about 4 years ago). For the most part, since 1968, we lost contact; for that I am truly sorry. Please know that I am thinking of you and the very good times that he and I had together. You should be assured that he is now in a better place for I know that he found God and Jesus Christ.
