Mattie Bertha Kysar, 80, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Baptist Health Hospital in Corbin, Kentucky. Born March 23, 1946, in Woodbine, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late John and Irene Nantz.
In addition to her father and mother, Mattie was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Kysar; her infant son, Richard Kysar; her brother, Thurman Nantz; and her sister, Susie Lewis.
She leaves behind her son, Kenneth Kysar and wife Lisa; son, John Kysar; son, Tony Kysar and wife Rita; eight grandchildren: Kenneth Kysar, Jr., and wife Carlee, Amanda Kysar and fiancé Chene Blakeley, John Kysar, Jr., Elijah Helton and fiancé Rose, Alex Helton, Ashley Jarrell and husband Dustin; Kimberly Kysar, and Tony Kysar, Jr.; several great-grandchildren; and eight siblings: Walt Nantz, Pauline Gay and husband Gary, Floyd Tilman Nantz and wife Martha, Bill Nantz, Jean Seals, Delmar Nantz, Debbie Turner and husband Johnny, and Amy Deacon and husband Tharron; and her uncle, Charles Nantz. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mattie was a member of the Restoration Church. She was a God-fearing prayer warrior who read her Bible faithfully. She was a cherished mother, grandmother “GiGi,” and sister who enjoyed spending time with her family and making their favorite foods like potato salad and “angel” eggs. Meanwhile, she found pleasure in journaling, growing flowers, and being around her chickens and pet turkey, Gilbert.
She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, April 10, 2026, in the Hart Funeral Home Chapel with Tony Kysar and Ronnie Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Corn Creek Cemetery with Kenny, Jr., Tony, Jr., Elijah, John, Jr., Derek, and Chene serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 12 – 2 P.M. Friday at Hart Funeral Home, located at 1011 Master Street in Corbin.
