Sylvia Lou Shackleford, age 83, of Corbin, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 9, 2026. She was the daughter of the late Hyatt and Wilma Shackleford, originally of Harlan County, Kentucky.

In addition to her parents, she joins her brother, Jimmy Joe Shackleford, and sister-in-law, Brenda Sue Shackleford, in the presence of Jesus. Survivors include her sister, Jean Shackleford and husband Michael Fox; sister, Dawn Sparks; sister-in-law, Glenna Shackleford; niece, Kimberly Shackleford; nephew, Adam Shackleford; niece, Chasity Shackleford; niece, Brianna Sparks; niece, Caitlin Mills and husband Corey; as well as her great-nephews and great-nieces.

Sylvia was born in Evarts, Kentucky, on August 13, 1942. She honorably served her country in both the Navy and the Marines. She worked and lived all over the United States, yet eventually found her way back home to Kentucky in 1993. Willing to serve in any way, she would always greet folks with a smile, and her big laugh was truly contagious! She always lit up a room with her sense of humor and beautiful heart. Sylvia also loved animals, most recently taking care of her beloved dog, Rascal, and her cats, Felix, Sweetie, and Mixie.

Visitation for Sylvia will be held Friday, April 17, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM in the chapel of Hart Funeral Home. Her Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, April 17, 2026, at 2:00 PM with Rev. Jimmy Hibbard of Tri-County Trinity Church officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery in Corbin with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post 88 Honor Guard.
