Verlie Eliza Middleton

Verlie Eliza Middleton, 96, passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at Baptist Health Corbin.

Born February 12, 1919, in Gray, she was the daughter of the late James “General” Coffey and Rhoda Coffey.

She was a member of Keck Baptist Church.   In addition to her homemaker role, she was also an employee of Belk Department Store from which she retired.  A gifted seamstress, she enjoyed sewing not only for her own family but also for community friends.

Besides her father and mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Middleton; by a granddaughter, Rose Fox; and by a great grandson, Brandon Medlin.

Survivors include her son, Curtis Middleton, and five grandchildren: Shirley Medlin, Tim Middleton, Jennifer Oliver, Paul Middleton, and Jason Middleton; 16 great grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Myrtle Crook, as well as other relatives and numerous friends, all to mourn her passing.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 9, 2016, in the Hart Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Dan Watkins officiating.  Burial will follow in Farris Cemetery at Gray with great grandsons serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. until the funeral hour at 2:00 P.M. Saturday at Hart Funeral Home, Inc., located at 1011 Master Street in Corbin.

    I remember Verlie very well, l too retired from Belks, in Boys department.
    She was such a pleasant person, sorry to hear of her passing.
