Zola Payne
November 29, 1934 - June 24, 2023Zola Payne was born in Knox County, Kentucky, on November 29, 1934, and departed this life on June 24, 2023, at Baptist Health Corbin, in Corbin, Kentucky. She was 88 years old.
She was the daughter of the late Otis and Gladys Wilburn.
In addition to her parents, Zola was preceded in death by her late husbands, George Payne and Charles Pete Elliott; a special companion, Austin Shumate; brother, Delbert Wilburn; sister-in-law, Tootsie Wilburn; two sons: Burley Elliott and Charles Ray Elliott; daughter-in-law, Linda Elliott; stepdaughter, Shirley Payne; and great-grandson, Billy Smith.
A beloved mother and grandmother, Zola was devoted to her family. She especially enjoyed spending time fishing with her son, Mike, and family, and shopping with her sister, Bonnie. She was also a die-hard wrestling fan. She spent over 35 years working as a housekeeper.
Zola is survived by her two sons: Johnny Elliott and wife Sheila of Indiana, and Mike Elliott and wife Vicki of Rockholds, Kentucky; daughter, Ada Hausman and husband Roger of Gray, Kentucky; stepson, Parker Payne of Corbin, Kentucky; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and one on the way; two sisters: Bonnie Brown and husband Doyle of Louisville, Kentucky, and Sue Miller of Gray, Kentucky, as well as several other relatives and numerous friends to mourn her passing.
Zola was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, July 1, 2023, in the Hart Funeral Home Chapel with Kenny Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Gray Cemetery with Hunter Dugger, Tyler Antonikowski, Noah Antonikowski, Camryn Blevins, Isaiah Elliott, Johnny Elliott, Leslie Dugger, and Anthony West serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Glen Elliott, Matt Elliott, Dale Valentine, Darrell Blevins, Joey Antonikowski, and Sawyer Elliott.
The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 P.M. Friday at Hart Funeral Home, 1011 Master Street, Corbin, Kentucky 40701.
